Group Ubuntu npo offers support to adult people with a disability in South-West-Flanders, Belgium, who hire or possess a house or who live in a project of Group Ubuntu. The support always puts the demands, needs, wishes and possibilities of the disabled persons at the centre and aims at developing their talents. We organise support from four regions:

- Region of Kuurne
- Region of Zwevegem/Harelbeke
- Region of Kortrijk/Menen
- Region of Avelgem/Waregem

Mobile teams
support clients who live alone or with their partner/family and who own or hire a house. A coach visits once or several times a week .The support can also take place in the regional Ubuntu spot or in a local support center. Specific expertise is at hand in terms of hearing and speech disorders, autism, psychological problems, etc.

At the start, the client is appointed a personal coach. The content and frequency of the support can be adjusted at all times. The support contains different domains of life, such as administration, budgeting, housing, maintenance, daytime activity and leisure, relationships, mobility and integration, education, health,…

Those who can’t or don’t want to live alone, for example because specific support is needed or because the proximity of support services is crucial, can live in a housing project of Group Ubuntu. The life in such a project is combined with an appropriate daytime activity, taking into account the interests and possibilities of the client. One can live in group or in a studio close to the central dwelling house. Here, specialised residential teams provide the support.

The collaboration between mobile teams, residential teams, regular services and other specialised caretakers in a
regional collective offers many advantages that raise the quality of life and the independency of clients: it reinforces cooperation between relevant actors and sectors, increases our impact on the local policy and allows us to respond flexibly to new or changed needs. Besides, the residents have maximum control and a meticulous monitoring can take place thanks to a permanent dialogue between clients, their network and professionals.
